There's a claustrophobic quality to this promo for The Murder Capital's 'Ethel'. The drama centres on a well-to-do family who take an unhealthy interest in their housemaid, slyly eager for her to finish dinner and the washing-up as soon as possible. When everyone retires to the living room, her most important 'duty' is revealed. The result shares DNA with director Maxim Kelly's recent promo for Belief, where a mute elf breaks into a fervent dance routine. The housemaid does the same here, but the power dynamics make 'Ethel' feel like a piece of French or South Korean cinema. Anchored by The Murder Capital's sinewy new track, the film draws you in and locks the door behind you. Thanks to Kelly's assured touch, there's no inclination to leave.
