Delaney's sunflowers.
by Jason Stone

Vincent van Gogh had his sunflowers, and Andy Delaney has Southend-on-Sea. The director's muse is the town where he grew up, now fully matured into a city. He returns to it again and again, capturing its unexpectedly dignified beauty through the residents and visitors enjoying its sights and sounds.

By skilfully using his camera to capture people having fun, he lets us see his beloved home town through their eyes, and this vicarious enjoyment is much more persuasive than a direct appeal. This is another brief foray into the jewel in Essex's crown, and we'll enjoy it until Mr Delaney pieces another one together, and then we'll enjoy that.
