Two against one. | |

A mixed martial artist discovers she's pregnant just days before the biggest fight of her career in this tightly wound drama. Played by real-life MMA fighter Annie Thatcher, the protagonist heads straight to the gym after her positive result, but her mind is understandably elsewhere. It's tough to watch Annie spar as her intensity drops and her coach demands answers. Every jerk, twist, and grapple is wince-inducing, with Annie caught between attack and defence. Even when she does visit the doctor to discuss her options, the sound fades to reflect how little has gone in. Thatcher is almost impossible to read throughout, whether she's at home, in the gym, or backstage in a crowded arena. It makes the final scene in the back of a taxi all the more powerful, viewers unsure of what's been lost and what's been won.
