DAVID is not sure how this gem of an ad was missed last year, but it's too good to pass by without a mention! A clever concept is beautifully brought to life in a whimsical 90” commercial. A child in her floating bed is joined by her mother as they journey down a huge river. We see the girl’s eyes light up in wonder as they take in the landmarks they float past, and we feel her emotions when teddy is lost and then found again. The viewer is made to feel that it’s a journey that only the two of them are taking. The shared looks, the blanket pulled over their heads and the rain cloud which rains directly above them: it’s a private journey, one that only affects them. “Sharing a story is like sharing an adventure,” A statement that will resonate with any book lover no matter their age. Books, after all, have an ability to lose a reader within them, like an escape to a parallel world, and this ad beautifully illustrates their power and ability to do that. It’s a delightful notion but ironically probably not really applicable to books given away with McDonald’s Happy Meals.
