Love will tear us apart. | |

Controversy magnets Love Island are bullish ahead of the show's upcoming eighth series. Rival dating shows and gurus are told to stand aside this summer, lest they drown in a sea of factor fifteen sunscreen or get pelted with aubergines or worse. Yet before ITV2 reveal the latest crop of islanders who would do anything for love (or a cut of £50,000 at least), the channel serve up an irreverent animated trail by KITCHEN and Leanne Rule. Given that two hundred and twenty four contestants have featured on the programme so far, the co-directors have plenty to work from. Thus, we get nods to Molly-Mae Hague's toy elephant, Ellie Belly; unfettered use of slow motion that would make Baywatch producers blush; and ill-advised tattoos, among other show staples. If it reminds some of why they hate Love Island, it reminds plenty more of why they worship it.
