Pasta Prime
by Syd Briscoe

Pasta becomes poetry in this stylish new ad campaign for Barilla. Directed by Philippe André and shot by cinematographer David Foulkes, the brand's latest incarnation is introduced via a delicate underwater ballet of noodles and bubbling water.

Underscored by the operatic 'Flower Duet' (familiar to many because of its long-running association with British Airways), the piece focuses on details as boiling spaghetti takes on an otherworldly appearance. Strands of pasta descend into the pot from on high, regimented and rigid before gradually softening and being sprinkled with oil and cheese.

The food photography is delectable here, emphasising the quality of the product and keeping its essential nature elegant and refined. It's classy stuff, and should encourage discerning diners to consider switching up their spaghetti sources (and maybe even their spaghetti sauces!).
