Up-and-coming singer Abby Roberts has released several songs in 2022, with new track 'Video Girl' concerned about the impact of social media on young people. Having made her name as a makeup artist on TikTok, Roberts is well-placed to comment on a world where looks can be deceiving. It's not the first song to scrutinise the online self and nor will it be the last, but Roberts does so with both moxie and vulnerability ("I feel like I'm lying on a hospital bed/Everybody's staring, is it something I said?"). Her catchy pleas to the eponymous Video Girl are also effective. As for the promo, director Ross Anderson plonks Roberts in a retro office that jumps between work and play at various points. It's a well-realised setting, but the MiracleLax infomercial at the start feels tacked on.
