It's the small moments that matter in this compelling film from director Robin Mason, which tackles the traumatic toll taken on healthcare workers during the pandemic. A nurse's mental state is explored between shifts, little details (a pause while washing her hands, shoelace impressions dented into her feet, a thousand-yard stare, etc.) highlighting the turmoil below the surface. Potent sound design enhances the film's emotional impact, as the beep of a monitor and the hiss of a ventilator slowly creep into the background of a conversation until they overwhelm it entirely. The dawning of a new day feels like a threat here, as a return to sickness and death looms over the main character's restless night like a spectre. Visceral, well-observed stuff.
