As Joni Mitchell once sang: "You don't know what you got till it's gone'. This affecting short film from director Rebecca Manley and narrated by Ewan McGregor depicts the consequences of ignoring our planet's woes. Deceptively playful visuals cushion the impact: we see an orangutan's leafy home razed to the ground; a mountain of discarded toys dominating the horizon; and a paper globe dissolved by a watering can monsoon. Manley's handmade sets are beautifully designed; their tangible, childlike fragility reflecting the film's focus on man-made issues. Somehow this makes it even more poignant when they're destroyed. We half expect McGregor to leap into a ‘Choose Life'-style rant about saving the Earth, but he's much more reserved. Instead he delivers some sobering information, including the fact that nearly every plastic item ever made still exists. Something's got to give - let's hope it's not the pale blue dot we call home.
