Matalan
'Summer 2024'
12 May 2024 30s
Here come the Harrisons.
by Andrew MacGregor

Matalan's last commercial was a real step-up in quality for the retailer, thanks in large part to a relatable script and a director who squeezed as much out of it as possible. McCann Manchester's David Ryan Jones and Lewis Dunlop are also behind this sun-kissed follow-up, with Jim Gilchrist back in the director's chair.

The Harrisons are on holiday abroad, but the course of true relaxation never did run smooth. A frantic flashback captures the storm before the calm: a 4:30am alarm; burnt toast; screaming children; last-second packing; and the obligatory dash through the airport. As Coldplay once sang: "Nobody said it was easy."

That's why the brand want to make summer fashion as straightforward as possible... the target audience have enough to think about before departure. We hope this approach translates to good sales and an autumn instalment.
