'Banana Slicer'

'Megalopolis' may have crashed and burned at the box office, but Adam Driver crawled out of the wreckage to star in this theatrical Amazon commercial. It's not enough to expunge "Go back to the club" from the collective memory, but it's a damn good try.

Driver sinks his teeth into a 'script' written by Mrs T—a woman who bought a banana slicer and wrote a review for the ages. It deserves to be read on a stage, so that's what the Oscar-nominated actor does. As monologues go, this one's a doozy.

Lines like "I spent the entire day rearing OUR children—maybe YOU can pitch in a little and cut these bananas?" and "You think I have the energy to slave over your damn bananas? I worked a twelve-hour shift just to come home to THIS?!" sound like they were cut from 'Marriage Story', and who knew children picked up on problems in the kitchen? This is where an invention as good as the wheel, penicillin, or the iPhone comes in.

As for the couple's sex life? Nine times out of ten, we'd prefer not to know, but Driver's delivery makes all the difference. It's a strong start to this campaign, and redemption for Driver.
