This intriguing offering from Canadian frozen food experts M&M Food Market puts an unexpected spin on a backyard BBQ. The set-up is fairly standard, as the narrative follows a man musing on just how many toppings he can get away with piling on his burger, but the aesthetics of the film are decidedly quirky.
A sunset-like grade gives the piece a heightened feel, making the food on the table look slightly unreal... if still appetising. Unusual music also adds to this dreamlike sensibility, bringing an almost sci-fi like quality to the film.
It's an interesting reminder about what we come to subconsciously expect a food ad to look and sound like, as the atypical treatment shakes viewers out of their comfort zones and makes them pay attention. It feels a bit like a garden party on Mars - which isn't a bad thing, as long as nobody involved with SpaceX is invited.
