Sometimes, a musician directing their own promo will pay dividends - the visuals will enhance the aural offer, drawing the viewers deep into the artistic psyche and offering untold insights into the process of creation. Other times, a rapper will spend a solid minute at the beginning of his video threatening a farting man with a gun. 'Sellin Crack', in all its pseudo-Scarface silliness, is an example of why it's usually best to leave filmmaking to the professionals.
