Starman and stargirl.
by Andrew MacGregor

A father-daughter relationship is at the heart of this composed ad for Skoda. Zak Emerson's film takes place in the distant future (erm, August 13th 2022) at 2:49am—the sort of time that makes you roll over in bed and pray you'll go straight back to sleep. However, the two protagonists are awake for a special reason.

Emerson sets the tone as the girl asks, "Do you think anybody else is up?" "Doesn’t feel like it," Dad replies, and the two campers set off on an adventure lit by torchlight. The ethereal soundtrack only heightens the mystery.

It turns out the pair want to stargaze in comfort, sat in the advertised Skoda with the sun/moonroof back. The girl's reaction to the night sky is both sweet and authentic, neatly conveying the brand's understated sense of adventure.
