Out of the shadows.
by Andrew MacGregor

DAVID buffs already know the story of weightlifter Tom Stoltman thanks to a riveting documentary from 2020. Now the reigning World's Strongest Man, Stoltman stars in this equally powerful ad for Reign Body Fuel... a film which examines his early struggles with autism.

It's hard to imagine a giant like Stoltman being bullied, or being told by a teacher that he will never amount to anything, but that's precisely what drove him to the brink of suicide as a teenager. Fortunately, older brother Luke knew where to take him.

Tom's relationship with the gym is liberating but intense ("I literally just tear the bar apart until I'm either dead or I get told to stop"), which must prompt anyone who belittled him to quadruple-lock their doors. Yet with his mind and body in harmony, Stoltman sees the bigger picture.

He wants more autistic children to follow in his footsteps and put their "superpower" to good use. Such a message would unimaginable just a few years ago, but Stoltman and the brand have given it the heft it deserves.
