Not On The High Street
'Celebrate Life'
22 September 2022 40s
Any excuse will do.
by Andrew MacGregor

Not On The High Street ads often coincide with Christmas, Mother's Day, and other events, but not this one. Instead, the brand insist that any occasion can be enhanced by a gift. Therefore, the cast of Jocelyn Anquetil's film each get a colourful bonus out of thin air, accompanied by a gentle puff of smoke.

Director Anquetil and production designer Zach Apo-Tsang's multi-hued, hyperreal aesthetic is a treat throughout, with frivolity rather than sentimentality at the forefront. At a time when dire straits feel like the only straits available, this is a welcome pick-me-up.
