Joesef
'East End Coast'
4 August 2022 4 mins

Someone can walk onto a crowded dance floor and still feel more alone than ever. The man adrift in a sea of revellers is Glaswegian singer and songwriter Joesef, who yearns for connection rather than the high life ("We don't need to have it all/That doesn't matter to me").

Luis Hindman, who also directed the promo for It's Been A Little Heavy Lately, nails the sweaty melancholy of a night on the tiles. Despite the number of bodies on screen, Hindman and DP Sam Meyer make the scene feel intensely private.

Combined with the soulful pop of East End Coast, it's an affecting piece of work that earns its euphoric conclusion. When the crowd parts in the right place at the right time, anyone's night can be salvaged.
