From Crossroads to Cordyceps via Curate Films, director Peter Hoar is a busy man. His three-part miniseries about soap actor Noele Gordon is about to drop on ITVX, while his contribution to HBO's 'The Last of Us' has already broken the internet—not a bad start to 2023.
For 'Nolly', Hoar went back to 1964, when Gordon (Helena Bonham Carter) was cast as Crossroads motel owner Meg Richardson. The show charts Gordon's mixed fortunes over the years, as the industry that once showered her with awards turned its back on her. Not that she would go down without a fight.
To say 'The Last of Us' is a tonal shift would be an understatement. An adaptation of the 2013 PlayStation title of the same name, the show follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) on a journey across a United States ravaged by a mutant Cordyceps fungus. And you thought the one in Planet Earth was bad.
Hoar directs episode three, 'Long Long Time', fleshing out one of the game's supporting characters, Bill. Nick Offerman plays the bearded survivor who, as Rihanna once put it, finds love in a hopeless place. Viewers still heartbroken after the events of 'It's a Sin' (also directed by Hoar) best steel themselves for the ballad for of and Frank.
Asif Kapadia, director of 'Senna', 'Amy', and 'Diego Maradona', changes tack with 'Creature', a film based on the English National Ballet production of the same name.
Jinx Godfrey, whose credits include 'Chernobyl', 'The Princess', and 'The Theory of Everything', is available for commercials again at Marshall Street Editors.
