New Land have signed director Malin Osafo to their New Talent roster after a successful internship. The Stockholm native once had designs on a career in textiles or sculpture, but that all changed when she arrived on set.
Once she learned the ropes of film production, budgeting, and casting, Osafo knew she wanted to direct. Just a handful of music videos and short films later, she's one of New Land's brightest prospects in the UK and Scandinavia.
Osafo's most recent effort is a promo for Danger by Olivia Dean, which brings new meaning to the phrase "hair of the dog". Rather than waste money on a lead, Dean uses her ponytail to keep a Doberman under control.
Once dog-sitting's over, Osafo shakes up proceedings with fizzy animation and florid costume design. The track may be called Danger, but the Swedish director's visuals have a playful opulence to them. New Land can't wait to see how Osafo's technique develops in 2023 and beyond.
