MAISON HANKO POPS UP AT NEXUS STUDIOS.
25 September 2019

Nexus Studios have Tokyo 2020 in mind as they introduce their new 'pop-up' roster, Maison Hanko.

Comprised of directors and illustrators from across Japan, Maison Hanko is described by Nexus co-founder Christopher O'Reilly as offering brands "great access to authentic creative voices" in time for next year's Olympic Games.

So far, the roster includes filmmakers Masahito Kobayashi, Kouhei Nakama, and ShiShi Yamazaki, alongside illustrators Takeshi Miyasaka, Takahiro Suganuma, and Kazuhisa Uragami. More names are expected to follow over time.

According to O'Reilly, Maison Hanko is a natural extension of Nexus Studios's past work in the Land of the Rising Sun: "Nexus has a long history of collaboration with Japanese creative talent. The company itself has Japanese roots and in the past we have worked with independent and some of the best anime studios.

"We felt, as we moved into the cultural and sporting Olympiad of 2020, that it would be a great moment to revisit this legacy - and at a time when many will be looking to work with talent based in Japan."

The move also comes as the Japanese creative industry's stock continues to rise, with manga, anime, and video games proving ever-reliable exports. The goal for Nexus is to bring yet more deserving talent into the global spotlight.
