BLINKINK NAB ISABEL GARRETT AND SAMUEL MASON. |
|
11 December 2022 |
|
Stop-motion animation director Isabel Garrett and multidisciplinary artist Samuel Mason have joined Blinkink for UK and Dutch representation. Both Garrett and Mason were on Blinkink's radar for some time, so let's learn a little more about each of them. |
1. Isabel Garrett
A graduate of the National Film and Television School, Isabel Garrett has carved out a niche for herself with subversive stop-motion animation. One of her recent highlights is a promo for alt-rock veterans Eels, whose frontman, Mark Oliver 'E' Everett, throws a paper plane turns into a bird on its way to the moon. Once there, viewers are introduced to Everett's friend and muse Dora, who lives on top of a coiled snake - a tail as old as time, eh? This curious scenario engrosses from start to finish, thanks to Garrett's patient hand and a quirky spin on time-honoured modes of communication.
2. Samuel Mason
Samuel Mason taught himself 3D animation in the early 2000s to satisfy his passion for meticulous world-building. His technique has only gotten better and more adventurous over time, and in 2021 he was commissioned by the family of the late Mac Miller to make a surreal, heart-warming music video. The promo ruminates on the conscious and unconscious mind as the rapper's dog, Myron, takes a trip into dreamland, complete with oceans of liquid music and rivers of bed sheets. Mason handles the trippy imagery with dignity here, and gives the artist who died aged just twenty-six a worthy send-off.
