DAVID PLAYS... 'SOCCER STORY'.
10 March 2023

Those who want a nuanced, well-balanced game of football should steer clear of 'Soccer Story' from developers Panic Barn. Yet those who want an endearing, easy-going RPG with colourful pixel art and a villain called Bep Jatter (in no way inspired by Sepp Blatter, of course) are onto a winner.

A mix of fetch quests, ballsy challenges, and chaotic five-a-side matches, 'Soccer Story' is a welcome change of pace for the beautiful (video) game. Inconsistent gameplay and busywork make it a slog at times, but it also has heart and charm to spare. Rather than try and beat EA Sports/FIFA at their own game, Panic Barn play by their own madcap rules.
