THE SWEETSHOP NAB DERMOT MALONE
16 August 2020

The Sweetshop have signed Dermot Malone to their international roster.

One of Ireland's most exciting young filmmakers, Malone's reel demonstrates a talent which belies his experience behind the camera. After earning a masters in Film Production, he dove head-first into creating as much work as possible in order to discover his own unique voice.

The results speak for themselves: major campaigns for brands across numerous sectors, a shelf full of awards including an ADFX Grand Prix, and critical acclaim in his homeland and beyond.

One standout is 'Ambition', made for Dublin-based jewellers Weir & Son's 150th year in business. There's a lovely old-school vibe as the action flits between the late nineteenth century and the present day, showing what a little get-up-and-go can achieve regardless of time or gender.

With credentials like this, it's no wonder The Sweetshop are delighted to have Malone on their books. Morgan Whitlock, Executive Producer, explains: "It is very rare to meet someone who has both the energy and conviction, alongside the innate craft and artistic talent Dermot has. I was amazed at what he had achieved in such a short space of time, until I met him. I can’t wait to see how far he is going to go and to be part of the next stage of his journey as a filmmaker."

Dermot has a pure, instinctive and elegant talent, and he can really tell a story.

 ”

Such high praise is supported by Malone's knack for cinematic storytelling with an emotional twist - in addition to a willingness to experiment with VFX flares to enhance a narrative. If this is nascent talent, he's sure to only enhance The Sweetshop's offer further as his reel expands.

With such enthusiastic support behind him, Malone is champing at the bit to get cracking at his new home: "I really am elated to be joining the roster. For many years I have been studying the reel of Sweetshop and the work is just so consistently diverse and beautiful. They are genuine storytellers and to be part of the array of talent serves as a lovely stamp of approval for what I have been trying to do for the last few years.

"Equally as importantly as the great work, the people are amazing," Malone adds. "The team across the world are warm, passionate and ambitious. I look forward to a long future of making affecting work together."
