During last month's Super Bowl, the half-time show – sponsored for the first time by Apple Music – was performed by Usher. Before the R&B star took the stage, a short film depicting a desperate search for him by Ludacris, Lil Jon, and Taraji P Henson was shown, presumably enabling a football field to be briefly transformed into a concert arena.
The film, which was directed by David Gordon Green of Chelsea Pictures, proved the perfect comic interlude as the global audience awaited the star's arrival.
It felt as though Wesley Snipes had stolen the show as Leslie Snipes (cousin to the aforementioned star) until a woman called Blanche joins the ever expanding gang of people rushing around Las Vegas in a bid to get Usher to the show on time.
A neat recurring gag featuring the Blue Man Group proves entertaining, and the director deals admirably with Apple CEO Tim Cook's limited acting repertoire.
All in all, a grand way of bridging the gap between the first half of the game and Usher's appearance on stage, and, with luck, a precedent for future Super Bowls.
Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr, directors of the recent 'Mean Girls' reboot, have graduated from North Shore High School and enrolled at Park Pictures.
