JESSICA BISHOPP JOINS THE MILL
5 November 2020

London-based director Jessica Bishopp has joined the already-teeming roster of talent at The Mill.

Fascinated by modern myths and uncovering the magic in the mundane, Bishopp's polished, documentary-style films delve deeply into the relationship between human consciousness and our surroundings - teasing out the universal experiences hidden in the humdrum hustle and bustle of our daily lives.

Bishopp first discovered her passion for filmmaking while finishing a degree in graphic design, and the considered visual composition of her work demonstrates an extremely well-honed sense of aesthetics. Her focus on coaxing strong performances from her cast adds an intimate quality to delicately-spun narratives, too.

[My style is] honest, intimate, thought-provoking with a creative approach and love of storytelling. I am interested in the boundary between non-fiction and fiction.

 ”

As for what inspires her consistently arresting creative output, Bishopp is grounded about her day-to-day sources of artistic energy: "People inspire me. Serendipitous meetings with strangers, friends who protest and stand up for what they believe in, the old man along my road who when the sun is shining – sits in his front garden, and when I walk by we have a chat."

Naturally, one can expect exciting things from Bishopp at The Mill. She is currently developing her next film with the BFI Doc Society, and has recent commissions from Nowness, Barbican, and Channel 4's Random Acts to further extend her impressive reel. Watch this space.
