RACHEL HOUGH AT STRING AND TINS
30 September 2020

There are some people in the advertising business who have such a habit of showing up at companies just as they embark on winning streaks, that it can't really be considered a coincidence. Rachel Hough – who was installed in a top role at String and Tins earlier this year – is such a person, and when she joined DAVID for a coffee recently, it was easy to gauge why she's proven such a magnet for success.

The Nottingham-born producer was, by her own admission, struggling to find a role for herself while studying at art college in Croydon. Lacking the tottering self-confidence of those around her, she couldn't see herself as a creative within an agency, even though that was where her momentum was taking her.

A visiting luminary from the industry put her right… confessing her doubts about her future to fellow Midlander Trevor Beattie, she found herself being asked the obvious question: "what are you good at?"

When she explained to the extravagantly coiffed guest that she was good at "organising things", he told her with the certainty of the Hogwarts Sorting Hat that she was "a producer".

Rachel Hough has been demonstrating the accuracy of this prediction ever since by establishing herself as one of the best agency producers in London working with BBH; Droga5; Ogilvy; Fallon; Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy; and others... either as a full-timer or on a freelance basis.

The opportunity to transfer her skills into a different realm of the advertising industry took her by surprise, and – like a lot of people facing an unexpected opportunity – she wasn't immediately sure. But after sitting down with String and Tins founding duo Will Cohen and Mike Bamford, she didn't need Trevor Beattie to tell her she'd be mad to turn it down.

This was a few months ago, and by the time of the aforementioned coffee, Rachel had already completed a number of jobs for String and Tins, and she, Cohen and Bamford are all extremely pleased with the way everything has worked out.
