MAX FISHER JOINS ROGUE FILMS
4 July 2022

In the past fortnight, we've included two highly impressive pieces of work directed by Max Fisher, so it's great timing for Rogue Films to be able to announce him as their latest signing. Fisher is one of those directors whose career DAVID has tracked very closely over the years, and - in that time - we've also got to know him, so it's with some authority that we can report that Rogue have not just added a first rate director to their roster, they've added a first rate human being to their team.

In an industry where the most commonly used adjective to describe directors might well be 'jaded', Max Fisher's enthusiasm is a restorative salve. Time spent in his orbit is rejuvenative and creatively inspiring, and it's a quality that clearly delivers an extra dimension to the scripts he directs.

But it's also a very focused energy, and it brings whatever's required to each project. Take, for instance, his recent work for CALM which drew attention to the illusion of positivity sometimes exhibited by those intent on suicide.

It's difficult to imagine more challenging subject matter, and having spoken to Fisher while the film was being made, we can vouch for his determination to get the tone right. He was acutely aware that, among the people who would see this film, were those whose lives had been directly touched by suicide, and he was determined to take account of their feelings, even as he strived to ensure that the film's important message was heard... a balancing act of immense difficulty.

He has a lightness of touch with sometimes difficult subjects and handles real, emotional storytelling in a way that cuts through the noise.

Fisher's recent film for the Royal Navy showcased another part of his repertoire, as he made joining the aquatic tranche of the Armed Forces look so much fun that even committed pacifists might have been tempted to sign up.

Reflecting on his own work, Max Fisher says that he looks for truthfulness in the minutiae of life: it's the little details "that make us human - a snatched glance, a resonant moment of truth in a simple visual".

Rogue MD Kate Taylor says of her new director: "Max’s work has been on my radar for a while. He has a lightness of touch with sometimes difficult subjects and handles real, emotional storytelling in a way that cuts through the noise. His work is important - and all the more memorable for it. We are delighted he’s chosen Rogue for his next chapter, and I can’t wait to get started!"
