CMN PPL FLMS WELCOME MARTA.
16 June 2021

Iceland’s Álfheiður Marta has joined the commercial and music video roster at Common People Films.

After working in sales for Bíó Paradís, Iceland's only arthouse cinema, Marta joined Sagafilm as a producer. She then switched to directing and hasn't looked back.

Like most of her contemporaries, Marta has adapted to Covid-secure film shoots and travel restrictions over the last year. After shooting a hopeful piece for Iceland's Department of Civil Protection, she's ready for a change of scenery.

"I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Common People and excited to work in the UK market," Marta says. "Working abroad and in a new environment will be refreshing and insightful, especially after a year of semi lockdown and all Icelandic productions."

Marta composes stylistic, longer-length shots which give weight to the performances and therefore draw you in emotionally.

 ”

"The team at Common People have been a delight to collaborate with so far, and I can't wait to go on set with them in real life. I feel this is the perfect next step for me as a director and joining the UK film industry is a dream come true."

Executive producer Emily Crofton-Atkins is equally enthused: "Marta has a subtlety to her work that makes it very engaging to watch. She composes stylistic, longer-length shots which give weight to the performances and therefore draw you in emotionally.

"It's this connection that is really important in any film experience in my opinion. We’re really excited to be working with Marta and watching her career go from strength to strength."
