PARK PICTURES SIGN J M HARPER
25 January 2021

Documentarian and filmmaker J M Harper has joined Park Pictures for UK and US representation.

Harper is a multi-talented director who brings his skills in editing, composing, and cinematography to play when shooting both commercial and creative work. Originally from Illinois, he first caught the filmmaking bug by shooting location-driven documentaries in the far-flung climbs of Senegal and Berlin, among others.

This sharply honed observational approach lends an emotional authenticity to Harper's projects, as he works to elevate voices which may otherwise go unheard. His films are deeply human affairs, exploring the hows and whys of storytelling while engaging viewers and holding a mirror up to society at large.

[Harper's] attention to detail - whether it be in documentary or narrative films - makes the seemingly insignificant into something profoundly powerful.

 ”

This holistic approach to filmmaking and deeply held passion for narrative are what ultimately grabbed Park Pictures' attention (in addition to his impressive reel, of course).

"Harper is a prolific storyteller whose attention to detail - whether it be in documentary or narrative films - makes the seemingly insignificant into something profoundly powerful," explains Jackie Kelman Bisbee, co-founder and executive producer at Park Pictures. "His ability to immerse himself fully into the stories he's crafting makes him a standout."

With upcoming feature documentaries and a series for Apple TV in the pipeline, it's fair to say Harper will hit the ground running at his new home with Park Pictures. A shared creative ethos with the team means more projects are bound to kick off quickly too.

"My admiration of Park Pictures began with the ingenious work of Lance Acord and Chivo Lubezki. The company's interest in profound storytelling reflects in its roster of directors who see filmmaking as a high calling," Harper says. "With the intent to break new creative ground, I'm humbled and enthusiastic to join forces with Lance, Jackie, and the incredibly talented Park Pictures team."

Check out J M Harper's Park Pictures page for more of his work, then get in touch with the team for more information via Bethany Reilly at bethany@parkpictures.com or on 07521 088 370.
