THE ADCAN AWARDS ARE BACK.
25 April 2018

Creative body ADCAN have opened the 2018 edition of their filmmaking contest.

Since their launch in 2014, the ADCAN Awards aim to highlight charitable causes through the work of up-and-coming directors and animators. This year tweaks the formula by offering four briefs to unsigned filmmakers, in addition to one for creatives from all backgrounds to enter.

ADCAN are putting youth causes first for the contest's fifth anniversary. The charities include Ashoka, Springster, United We Dream, and Youth Health Movement, with remits varying from education to mental health.

Organisers have also announced an open brief concerning gun control. It's an emotive topic, but ADCAN Executive Director Eric Voegele expects a positive reaction: "ADCAN has always been in service to our alumni community, but we are very keen to see the type of submissions we receive in response to this new opportunity."

As in previous years, the free-to-enter contest is backed by a host of industry big guns - all of whom are keen to see budding filmmakers make their mark. Prizes for the winners and nominees include an invitation to the 2018 ADCAN Awards in Los Angeles on October 18th 2018, as well as sage advice from the organisation's partners.

There are so many incredibly talented young directors out there that just need a platform upon which to be seen and a friendly voice guiding them.

 ”

Along for the ride is Prettybird Vice President Ali Brown. The newly-appointed ADCAN judge says: "There are so many incredibly talented young directors out there that just need a platform upon which to be seen and a friendly voice guiding them.

"That ability to connect with the next generation of filmmakers while supporting the notion of using creativity for good literally makes this the consummate way to get involved in our industry."

The deadline for submissions is August 15th 2018, so entrants best get cracking. For more information, and to view this year's briefs, visit ADCAN.com.
