HYMNS AND HYRRS
12 December 2017

Grey London have taken a unique approach to festive fundraising this year, teaming up with Goldstein Music to re-imagine Christmas carols with a feminist twist.

'Hyrrs: Festive Hymns Made Feminist' is an ambitious project, taking traditional songs and changing the lyrics to reference topics such as body shaming, the wage gap, and workplace harassment.

The album - a 'holly-jolly eff you to sexism' - features such compelling titles as 'Kick The Balls (Of Patriarchy)', 'Good Queen Wenceslas', and 'More than Half of Working Women (Have Been Sexually Harassed)'.

The lyrics are as smart as they are cutting, with lines including 'old white men hold all the power/let's bring down their phallic tower'. It's a timely project which is sure to appeal to everyone who's thoroughly sick of sexism.

Grey's Co-Chief Creative Officer, Vicki Maguire explained: "From Weinstein and Westminster to salaries and sexism, 2017 has shown how appalling it can be for women. That's why we now want to make a statement about kicking everyday inequality in the baubles this Christmas."

Proceeds from the album - available to download and stream on all major platforms - will go to Refuge, a national domestic violence charity which provides essential support to thousands of women and children every year.

Head to the project's website (www.hyrrsnothymns.com) for more information about the charity, and also check out the free HyrrBook available for download. Grey London - and the rest of us - are hoping for a very equal Christmas, and supporting this project will help that happen.
