RANKIN AND THE FULL SERVICE'S LABOUR OF LOVE.
6 July 2017

Thursday July 6th marks International Kissing Day. Check your calendar, it's definitely there. To mark the occasion, Rankin and creative agency The Full Service have launched the #GetSnogging project.

While public displays of affection remains a, er, touchy subject, this has good intentions. No branded or commercial strings attached, either. The venture simply encourages audiences to get their kissing game on with a selection of short films.

This ensemble idea grew from Rankin’s archive of kisses.

 ”

How did this passion project come about? The Full Service figured we could all do with something light-hearted, and International Kissing Day felt like a good launchpad. Throw in Rankin's fondness for 'Cinema Paradiso' and the concept developed from there.

The Full Service's Vicky Lawton explains: "This ensemble idea grew from Rankin's archive of kisses. What starts as the gem of an idea in the office upstairs, is soon being shot in the studio downstairs.

"This extended beyond that, bringing in some of our favourite talent to work with us on it."

Like who? The organisers have wrangled some impressive directing talent. Rattling Stick, Moxie Pictures, 1stAveMachine, Iconoclast, Partizan, Riff Raff, Fat Lemon, Dark Energy, and Rankin have all contributed smackers... and there's plenty of freelance talent involved too.

Each director was given free rein, ensuring an eclectic medley of kisses, snogs, and pecks on the cheek (and elsewhere). Even plugs and sockets find their romantic spark… though not everyone gets lucky.

Compiling all those must have been a lark. That's where Lizzy Graham at Marshall Street Editors comes in. Graham says: "What appealed to me was how the project managed to pull together a huge roster of fantastic directors giving us so many variations on the simple kiss."

We almost had Donald Trump and Theresa May, but they only held hands.

 ”

Rankin must be pleased. The company's eponymous founder says: "We wanted to do something compassionate and affectionate. We almost had Donald Trump and Theresa May, but they only held hands." Call it a blessing in disguise.

Judging by the hashtag, I'm guessing there's audience participation? Viewers are free to submit their own kissing clips via social media. Those who tickle Rankin and co's fancy will be included in a further film released on Valentine's Day 2018, so have at it... within reason.

Consider me titillated. Then you're in luck - the entire selection is available to view now at the Full Service website.
