KATHRYN FERGUSON'S IN FASHION AT GOOD EGG.
2 September 2016

World-renowned director and fashion film connoisseur Kathryn Ferguson is the latest addition to Good Egg's roster of directors.

A filmmaker, scholar, and film curator rolled into one talented package, Belfast-born Ferguson balances her commercial work for the likes of Selfridges, Vogue, Air France, and Nike with a role as a champion of fashion films for a variety of cultural and educational institutions.

She wears a lot of hats. Let's start with her directing - what can you tell us about her style? Cinéma vérité has been a big influence on her approach to filmmaking, and she's always keen to emphasise honesty in her work. Furthermore, she's determined to bring more positive and diverse depictions of women to the screen - something exemplified by this uplifting Selfridges film.

Bold work, indeed. I understand Ferguson has been the go-to director for Selfridges, too? That's right. As the department store's director-in-residence, Ferguson has been able to craft an impressive reel of films celebrating femininity in all its forms with both style and substance.

Her drive and enthusiasm are infectious and her work speaks for itself. We can’t wait to break boundaries and see what the future has in store.

 ”

Gender identity is a recurring inspiration for Ferguson. With a backing track by Devonté Hynes and Neneh Cherry, this piece of work assembles a diverse cast and lets diversity flourish in the darkness.

Trendy work in more ways than one. She likes exploring contemporary issues with an eye for style, then? That's a good way of putting it. Depending on the project, she's able to amplify or mute the visuals to get the message across. It's a tricky proposition for some, but Ferguson showcases her range with this black-and-white interview with actor Emma Watson for Vogue. Intimate and unembellished, the film allows Watson's words to dominate.

Strong work across the board. Now I understand Ferguson's got a packed schedule beyond the set, as well? As an impassioned curator of fashion film, she's collaborated with the BFI, the British Council, and the British Fashion Council in showcasing the genre's burgeoning influence and standing.

If that isn't enough, she's a research fellow at the London College of Fashion and travelled the world delivering lectures and holding workshops.

Good Egg must be pleased to get a director of her calibre on board. HQ says: "We are very excited about Kathryn joining the Good Egg gang. Her drive and enthusiasm are infectious and her work speaks for itself. We can't wait to break boundaries and see what the future has in store."

It's clear Good Egg have signed one of the most hard-working talents around. You can enjoy more of Kathryn Ferguson's work here, while Good Egg are only a phone call away on 020 7494 8275.
