Up-and-coming director Rosie May Bird Smith has become the latest addition to the gang at Biscuit Filmworks. As a creative at Havas London, Bird Smith worked on accounts like Asda, Vanish, and Tilda, so she knows all about the needs and wants of clients.
This knowledge helped when she directed a 2022 commercial for Green Supermarket and breast cancer charity Coppafeel. In a neat blend of observational comedy and self-preservation, a woman named Jill receives a personal message from the self-scan till. Bird Smith handles both the serious and the comedic elements well, demonstrating the wit that MD Rupert Reynolds-Maclean admires so much.
"Rosie is such an exciting new talent with a trademark sense of humour and we are very happy she has joined us at Biscuit," Reynolds-Maclean says. "Her instincts as a comedy director are very good and we are looking forward to working with her."
Expect to see plenty more from Bird Smith in the near future. For now, check out her cheeky contribution to the Covid-19 canon, wherein a bloke learns that sheep wool provides effective protection against the virus. Cue a bunch of ovine shenanigans that prove once and for all that vaccines are awesome.
