SAM MASON HEADS TO HORNET
2 July 2018

Hornet have signed director Sam Mason to their roster for global Representation.

Citing artists such as Terry Gilliam, Jim Henson, and Yuri Norstein as influences, it's not surprising that Mason is obsessed with creating fantastical landscapes within his films. His work as a student at Central Saint Martin's brought him to the film world's attention, and he was soon creating visuals for brands across the globe.

Mason takes an off-beat approach to animation, blending new and emerging technologies with real-world objects to tangibly ground his visuals in reality.

This textured approach to film can be seen in his collaboration with director Mario Hugo. 'Little Things' gives its surreal images a pleasing grit, as Hugo and Mason mix vintage objects with animation and CG to create something both very much of this world and simultaneously outside of it.

As someone who has followed Sam's work over the course of his career, this signing is an incredible opportunity on many levels.

 ”

With this highly detailed and artistic style, Mason has become a director in demand from a diverse range of brands. His whimsical worlds created for the likes of Honda entice the viewer with their romantic, playful aesthetic.

As Mason continues to hone his painterly slant towards commercial and promo work, it's no wonder Hornet are excited to add Mason to their roster.

Hornet EP Hana Shimizu says of the signing: "As someone who has followed Sam's work over the course of his career, this signing is an incredible opportunity on many levels. He's always possessed a unique ability to weave disparate aesthetics and techniques to create a rich, evocative world that is so otherworldly yet nostalgic.

"To finally align our efforts and work together at this stage of his career is wonderful for Hornet, and more than ever we feel like we're the right partners to pave the way to a new wave of work and expression from Sam."
