THE SWEETSHOP SIGN JAKOB MARKY
3 August 2018

The Sweetshop have signed Jakob Marky for global representation, excluding Europe. The half-Swedish, half-Hungarian director went all the way to Australia to earn his stripes in the film industry, so it should come as no surprise that he brings a global perspective to his work. He credits his poet father with inspiring his creative direction, as he was told to "never let truth get in the way of a good story".

Marky seeks to follow that suggestion by blending authenticity and storytelling in his work - something which has led him to become an in-demand commercial director. He first made waves in his native Sweden with films for major brands including Nordea and IKEA, and won the Ingmar Bergman Award for Best Screenplay for his film "Fuga".

International success soon followed, as Marky helmed a successful Facebook campaign for Skittles: "Super Mega Rainbow Updater". The campaign involved a call centre which read out status updates, and won a pair of Cannes Lions for his effort.

Signing Jakob is a great honour. Not only is his reel amazing, but he has a gloriously versatile and creative brain.

 ”

Aside from his successful interactive campaigns, Marky has proven himself to be a sensitive filmmaker with an innate grasp of influencing his audience's emotions. His work can be poignant and funny by turns, and he's currently developing two new shorts: 'Motherland' and 'The Lions Dens'.

The Sweetshop team are looking forward to having his diverse range of talents on board. Wilf Sweetland, CEO & Partner of Sweetshop say: "Signing Jakob is a great honour. Not only is his reel amazing, but he has a gloriously versatile and creative brain. His sensibilities fit so well with Sweetshop's own, and I know these will translate strongly for the agencies and brands we work with on a global level."
