GAIA BORRETTI JOINS THE ASSEMBLY ROOMS.
19 July 2019

Talented editor Gaia Borretti has bolstered the team at The Assembly Rooms. The multilingual Italian editor has spent the last few years building a terrific reputation for her versatile skills, working across the full gamut of filmmaking including documentaries, music videos, features, short films and, of course, TVCs.

Originally a student of classical music and philosophy, Borretti has had a varied career which saw her working in pubs, bookshops, theatres and even training racehorses at one point.

Her journey into filmmaking came through an acquaintanceship with film editor Jacopo Quadri. He helped her to discover, much to her surprise, that the edit suite was where she really belonged... and she hasn't, as the cliché goes, ever looked back.

She is especially associated with the director Ian Pons Jewell, having worked with him from the very start of his career, but her CV reveals many more strings to her bow.

She has seventeen entries in IMDb including Break My Fall, a 2011 feature film directed by Kanchi Wichmann. She has also worked on numerous documentaries and short films.

On moving to The Assembly Rooms, Borretti says : "Their team of editors is up there with the best. They aren't just very talented but the team is also really diverse, with an equal gender split, which is rare in editing - it played a significant role in my joining them. In my opinion editing is the closest process in storytelling to directing, which is absolutely recognised at The Assembly Rooms. They're committed to the art and the skill of editing and its role in telling great stories."

Eve Ashwell is particularly pleased to have landed Borretti: "She is a tremendous creative talent, with an excellent editing eye. Her huge collection of diverse and accomplished work is something we've been admiring for a long time, and we're very excited and proud to welcome her to the fold."
