The Portland native brings an eclectic CV to the table, having worked at various points as a hip-hop dancer, food writer, jingle singer, and even as an NFL cheerleader.
Given this range of influences, it's no wonder that her work is often inspired by improv and sketch writing - which she hones with New York's Upright Citizens Brigade and The Pit. Her creative work on the viral spot 'A Long Five Years' demonstrates this nuanced understanding of comic performance, highlighting the insanity of the USA not having paid maternity.
Coulter also draws inspiration from everyday scenarios, stating that "humans do the darndest things'" and such wacky behaviour pulls her to scripts which may seem off-the-wall, but somehow ring true.
Her 30" ad for insurance company Geico, for instance, depicts a fashion faux pas which is patently absurd - yet all too relatable in its cringeworthiness.
O Positive are certainly excited to have Coulter move from behind a desk to behind the camera. Director and partner Jim Jenkins explains: "I've known Jess for years, and she is smart and talented and motivated, and O Positive needs smart and talented and motivated people. Actually, Jess will be our first one, so we expect that she'll do extremely well."
Jess Coulter's reel is now live over at O Postive, and for more information you should get in touch with Nell Jordan via firstname.lastname@example.org or on 07725 735 066.
