TREASURE HUNT
11 June 2018

Vollebak are offering an extraordinary prize to their most intrepid devotee... but they're really going to have to earn it. The sportswear company have hidden a piece of treasure they're calling the Extreme Discount Card which will entitle its finder to free Vollebak clothing for life.

But this is no scavenger hunt - the only clues to its whereabouts are contained in a five minute film shot by Oscar-winning director Orlando Von Einsiede and - from the looks of it - finding it will be no mean feat.

It could be anywhere. Indeed, it's been out there for eighteen months already without anyone chancing across it. That's not really a surprise when you consider that Jason Fox and Aldo Kane who were given the task of burying it, are former elite military operatives who have "pioneered new Atlantic rowing routes, led expeditions into erupting volcanoes and abseiled Angel Falls". If they hide something, you'd expect it to stay hidden.

The whole enterprise brings to mind Kit Williams's 1979 project 'Masquerade'. Witnessed by Bamber Gascoigne - the original host of 'University Challenge' - Williams buried a golden hare somewhere in the English countryside. The clues to its location were contained in a series of puzzles in his book 'Masquerade' which quickly became a bestseller. The internet would make it impossible to recreate the relative simplicity of Williams's game, and a treasure hidden in those circumstances would be found in next to no time.

This explains why Vollebak have gone to extraordinary lengths to find such an impossible hiding place... it's going to be one thing to work out where the Extreme Discount Card is, and quite another to actually recover it.
