Self-proclaimed jack-of-all-trades Mike Anderson has joined Nexus Studios for global representation. The American cut his teeth as a painter and set designer before pivoting to animation, motion capture, and virtual production. If there's a gap in his knowledge, Anderson fills it ASAP.
When asked to sum up Anderson in three words, Nexus said that was impossible. We let them away with sixty-six: "Mike's aesthetic exists at the edge of absurdity, with characters built to jolt and amaze… but all the jokes land in a meticulously observed way. The unfamiliar is dizzyingly relatable in his hands.
"With a comedy talent hosted at Adult Swim and FXX, Mike captures today's diverse visual, social, and technical landscapes with enviable ease, ingeniously traipsing between digital cutting-edge gaming aesthetics and handcrafted traditional animation."
The company were impressed by Anderson's 2022 short film, 'Hot Future', a CG fever dream where "dance is violent and the future is hot." Commissioned by Adult Swim, the film has satire, pop culture references, and zany choreography on auto-fire. Nexus founder and chief creative officer Chris O'Reilly emerged dazed and excited.
"Mike has a great talent for creating contemporary aesthetics in animation, alongside a unique comedy sensibility," O'Reilly says. "He really understands the new frontiers of animated storytelling, while his ambitions for the technologies and platforms driving creative opportunities make him a powerful addition to the roster. We are delighted to be working with him."
