JAMES FITZGERALD JOINS FAT LEMON

Director James Fitzgerald - who has joined the roster at Fat Lemon - specialises in bringing comedy scripts to life by ensuring that the laughs land exactly where they should. The Irishman is also a writer, and the hue of his own compositions reveals a dark sense of humour as well as an intriguing perspective on life.

Fat Lemon's Cabell Hopkins was drawn to Fitzgerald after seeing his eye-catching 'Cashless' work: "I only had to watch James's commercials for Tony Card to know he was the right man for me."

The 'Cashless' films possess an unusual combination of whimsy and darkness which make them mighty compelling, as you can see from the execution below.


Fitzgerald's latest commercial is hot off the press, and it's a piece of work which again demonstrates his proclivity for dark humour. This time though there's an explicit joke, as the main character wakes from a lovely dream to disappointing reality, only to discover that the part of his reverie that most excited him - a sandwich from the advertised fast food chain - is right in front of him.


In 2021, Fitzgerald's short film 'The Invisible Boy' was long listed for an Oscar... it also picked up an IFTA nomination, and a place on the Young Director Awards shortlist at Cannes.

All of this clearly makes him a director to watch - as Cabell Hopkins says: "There is a lightness and freshness to his work, alongside a keen eye for detail, that we admire over here. His latest spot for Subway is also a good example. We look forward to working together."
