 It's the work, stupid.

RICH LEE ENTERS KODE.
6 July 2018

Few people are brave enough to chuck their day job working for Disney and strike out on their own... but that's exactly what Kode's new signing Rich Lee did - and the New York native has since more than justified his decision to leave the House of Mouse with ease.

A practical effects whizz and Disney ‘Imagineer', Lee then decided to hunker down in his flat and grapple with computer graphics instead. Six months later, he had a portfolio worthy of post-producers' attention… and thus began his transition onto Hollywood movie sets.

While Lee observed the industry's finest doing their thing, he admits the urge to step behind the camera himself was too strong to ignore: "I started to get that director bug. I bought a video camera and experimented, shooting everything. I made dozens of little shorts - all experimental, but each a stepping stone."

Rich is the latest in a line of new talent on our roster, and we’re delighted to welcome him to the family.

 ”

Lee's persistence soon paid off as he eased into commercial and promo shoots, while his cinematic grounding makes him a choice pick for ambitious briefs. For instance, this Audible commercial sees Lee handle constantly changing backdrops and tonal shifts in a 60" genre jump.

As his live-action reel grows, Lee continues to explore all things practical and CG on the side: "I still like to get dirty and build the occasional set piece or create the oddball visual effect… it's all part of the fun and I'm still learning."

His education continues at Kode HQ who say: "Rich is the latest in a line of new talent on our roster, and we're delighted to welcome him to the family".
