 It's the work, stupid.

IN WITH THE 'DUBLIN OLD SCHOOL' CROWD.
19 June 2018

Those already lamenting their World Cup sweepstakes performance may welcome the distraction presented by Dave Tynan's debut feature film, 'Dublin Old School'. Adapted from Emmet Kirwan's play of the same name, Mad Cow Films director Tynan is primed for his flick's Irish release on Friday 29th June.

The film set sees Tynan reunite with Irish dramatist Kirwan, having previously collaborated on short films like ‘Just Saying' and ‘Heartbreak'. The latter won Best Short Film at the 2017 Irish Film and Television Academy and Awards, so the duo look to maintain this good form with their feature-length sibling drama.

Set deep within Dublin's rave clubs and backstreets, the likes of Trainspotting and 24 Hour Party People are clear touchstones. However, co-writer Kirwan - who also plays ketamine addict Jason - believes the film tackles issues such as drug abuse and homelessness with a distinctly Irish edge.

Kirwan says: "[Dublin Old School] is about the hypocrisy of how people treat addicts," and how party drugs such as ecstasy and ketamine cause "incremental destruction". Wrapping these themes into a vivid and lyrical depiction of estranged brothers aims to provide something for everyone come June 29th.
