In an interview with NME in 2021, Simon Bird said he wanted to "wriggle free of being Will from The Inbetweeners." He's doing a damn good job of it so far, both as an actor and a director. That's why Moxie Pictures have signed him for commercial representation.
The move coincides with the release of 'Such Brave Girls' on BBC Three, with Bird directing all six episodes of the bold-as-brass sitcom. The tale of single mother Deb (Louise Brealey) and daughters Billie and Josie (Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson) cuts deep, but also delivers laughs in spades. It's a strong calling card for Bird, who enters Moxie Pictures with a skip in his step.
"Moxie represent some genuine blue-chip Hall of Famers and I'm honoured to be joining its ranks," says Bird, a past spokesman for the Post Office, CrossCountry, and EE. "The best commercials share a lot of DNA with the best comedy and I relish the prospect of creating work that is precise, accessible, and audacious."
Dawn Laren, managing director of Moxie Pictures, says: "I'm such a long-standing fan of Simon's, so couldn't be more thrilled to now represent him as a director. His style is seminal in the making and we can't wait to get going."
