DANIEL WARWICK JOINS OBJECT & ANIMAL
26 September 2024

Object & Animal have strengthened their offer by adding director Daniel Warwick to their roster. Warwick has a well-deserved reputation for delivering work possessed of an undefinable level of positive weirdness which inevitably elevates a script several levels from where it started.

For evidence of this special quality, take a look at this commercial for outdoor wear retailer Kathmandu. It is, to use the correct technical term, utterly bonkers, Half the battle with this approach is persuading the client (and sometimes even the agency) to fully go along with it, as it cannot be done half-heartedly, and this is where Daniel Warwick's beguiling charm comes into its own.

O&A are the fucking bomb.

 ”

The result is magnificent, and, by all accounts, has helped Kathmandu establish itself as the 'go to' for young consumers in New Zealand, so this isn't just work that collects awards... it collects customers.

There's further evidence of Warwick's unique style in this 2023 commercial for Samsung, which gets inside a young woman's head as she faces the possibility of damaging her precious phone when she nearly drops it. The depiction of her stream of consciousness is full of the director's trademark verve, and, once again, you have to admire how he has managed to sneak such a waywardly wonderful approach past the notoriously stern adland gatekeepers.

Dom Thomas expresses traditional enthusiasm for his new signing: "Having produced for Daniel back in the day, I know first hand the energy, joy and fun he brings to the creative process. His way of seeing the world, collaborative spirit and passion for the craft of storytelling is inspiring.”

In contrast, Daniel Warwick keeps it short and sweet, Jesse Pinkman style: "O&A are the fucking bomb"
