DARLING FILMS ENLIST YASSA KHAN.
11 January 2024

Welsh-Pakistani director Yassa Khan has joined the esteemed ranks at Darling Films. A former art director and graphic design guru at the likes of Droga5 and Grey London, Khan is known for "heartfelt narratives, grand themes, and beautiful, kaleidoscopic visuals".

He's worked on a handful of projects with Darling already, but the company are delighted to make it official as 2024 kicks into gear. He brings a reel chock-full of deft commercials, pensive documentaries, and more to his new home, as well as a desire to tell articulate LGBTQ+ stories.

He also travels the world to find stories that must be shared. This melancholy film for the Sage Foundation explores the issue of child marriage in Nigeria. There are at least twenty-two million child brides currently living throughout the country, and the piece highlights how these numbers increase at alarming rates year on year.

Khan's visuals work hard to enhance the stories being told here, as images of fragile beauty are presented in contrast with the harsh reality at hand. Keeping girls in education and empowering them to reach their full potential is key, the campaign says, but more needs to be done. Projects like this are all about commitment, and Khan more than delivers on that front.
