CHANNEL 4'S DIVERSITY IN ADVERTISING AWARD RETURNS
24 May 2018

Channel 4 have launched the 2018 edition of their annual award for Diversity in Advertising - with the winner set to receive 1 million worth of airtime.

While 2016's focus was on improving disability representation, and 2017 saw non-visible disabilities take the spotlight, this year's contest focuses on the portrayal of women in advertising. The award encourages brands and creative agencies to explore and improve both how, and how much, women are represented in ads.

The last two awards have seen groundbreaking work from Maltesers and Lloyds Bank - addressing physical disability and mental illness respectively - and this year's topic seems a fitting follow-up.

In the age of #MeToo, Ireland's vote on reproductive rights, and pressure on employers to address the gender pay gap, the portrayal of women in all forms of media has come under increasing scrutiny. With sexualisation, stereotypes, and intersectionality on the table, we'll be intrigued to see what this year's entrants come up with.

The deadline for entries is July 9th 2018 and a shortlist will be announced on the 17th, so would-be winners should get cracking now.
