BLINKINK DOUBLE THEIR PLEASURE WITH ZACH TAVEL AND COLE KUSH.
3 December 2023

Blinkink have scored a North American one-two with New York native Zach Tavel and Canadian Cole Kush signed for global representation. The pair tick all of Blinkink's boxes and a few more besides… read on to learn more about them.

Zach Tavel made a splash this year with a hyperreal spot for art collective Meow Wolf. The piece harnesses 90s-style ad imagery, and pairs bright colours and enthusiastic characters with weird visual twists that suggest a normal retail trip definitely isn't on the cards at this shopping mall. The film is less a straightforward critique of commercialism than a hot take on the concept of reality itself - something viewers familiar with the bizarre collective will know is standard practice.

It impressed executive producer Josef Byrne and then some: "What Zach has created off his own back is incredible - most of the projects on his reel he's written and directed himself. His performance comedy is some of the finest we've seen. His visual style and ability to make weird stuff is exactly what we love in live-action. We can't wait to bring some Blinkink to his work."

2. Cole Kush

The uncanny valley has claimed the lives of many directors, but not Cole Kush. He thrives in the weird and wonderful world of CG, though his background in biology and clinical science means he never loses his grip on reality. After a string of successful tie-ups with Blinkink, it was only a matter of time before the company brought him in for a chat.

"Cole's been a collaborator with us for years," says Byrne. "He's worked with our long-form division, the 'Don't Hug Me I'm Scared' crew, and is developing a game with our new Blink Games team. It's only natural that we get him even more intertwined with us. His music videos are some of the most bizarre things we've seen, and he brings that tone seamlessly into his commercial work, Nike Jordan being a great example. Very excited to push Cole's work even further and into new worlds and techniques."
