It's Giving Chopper

Westpac’s new ad for their charitable endeavours sidesteps the usual emotional hard sell in favour of something more self-aware. In a landscape where every appeal is competing for the same finite pool of goodwill, and where audiences are increasingly stretched, the ad taps into a familiar, quietly nagging thought: what difference does my small contribution really make?

Rather than ignore that scepticism, it leans into it. The film starts in recognisably mundane territory before slipping subtly into absurdity. Individuals who seem entirely unremarkable on their own, come together, culminating in the kind of delightfully ridiculous visual (a human chopper) that makes the point without labouring it.

There’s a confidence in what’s left out. No soaring soundtrack, no emotive casting, no grandiose claims. Just a simple idea, patiently played out. And that restraint is precisely where the brilliance lies.

It’s wry, understated, and quietly persuasive. A great little reminder that while any single act of giving might feel negligible, collective effort is anything but.
