To the sound of 'Lean on Me'by Bill Withers, Volvo reminds us that it invented the three-point seat belt in 1959. There's more than a hint of "What can I say except you're welcome?" when the marque says it gave rival brands the technology for free. Is it more likely to make consumers buy a Volvo, or prompt them to say, "Huh, that's a neat bit of trivia—one for the pub quiz"?
